MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS TO JOIN THE AMERICAN LEGION

NEW MEMBERSHIP

Eligible veterans applying for first time membership must submit the following information to Post Membership Chairman:

1. Complete American Legion Membership application by clicking on "APPLICATION" button.  

2.  Print two (2) completed copies. 

3. COPY OF ONE OF THE FOLLOWING DOCUMENTS:

4. Payment of Membership Dues - $45 a year (2025). Make checks payable to Crandall-Palmer American Legion Post 61.

5. If the information is correct, membership will be approved and then a membership card will be mailed to you.

TRANSFERS

Veterans applying for transfers from your current Post to our Post must submit the following:

1. Completed Member Data Form (available at the Post).

2. Copy of Membership Card, Military ID or Retirement Card, VA Card, or VA "Proof of Service" Letter.

MEMBERSHIP ELIGIBILTY in the American Legion is based on honorable service with the U. S. Armed Forces between:

April 6, 1917 -November 11, 1918 - World War I
December 7, 1941 - to a time later determined by the federal government

In 2020, President Trump signed into law the LEGION Act.  The LEGION Act (Let Everyone Get Involved In Opportunities for National Service Act), opened the door to approximately 6 million veterans to access American Legion programs and benefits for which they previously had not been eligible.

Must have served at least one day of active military duty during the dates stated above and honorably discharged or still serving honorably.
